Weather Survival Week: Tornadoes Jessica Foster It is Weather Survival Week in Florida. The goal is to prepare for severe weather before a disaster strikes. It’s important to make sure all family members know the emergency plan. Wednesday, many schools across Florida will be participating in a statewide tornado drill. Tornadoes are very dangerous and can occur quickly. You don’t have much time to prepare when a tornado warning is issued. That’s why remembering some simple safety rules could save your life during a tornado. 1. Stay away from windows and doors. 2. Move to the lowest level, interior portion of your home, such as a closet. 3. If you are driving, stop the car and seek shelter in a building. A low-lying ditch can be used if there are no other options. 4. Mobile homes are not safe during tornadoes. Prepare to leave your mobile home and escape to a safe shelter when a watch is issued. Make sure the safe shelter is close and you can get there quickly. Original at: http://www.panhandleparade.com:80/index.php/mbb/article/severe_weather_awareness_week_tornadoes/mbb7714038/
