Fiction for survivalists By Joseph Parish As some of my closest friends know I save all my survival information onto CD’s so that I can use them with a laptop as I am making my way to my survival retreat. Often times when I create a survival CD with my survival information placed on it I will frequently include books which are of a fictional nature and not at all associated with the topic of survival or even survivalists. Over a period of time several people have approached me and inquired as to why I create the CD with fiction on it and I thought that it was time that I explained my reasoning to my readers. When we enter a survival crisis you have to remember that most of us will be very stressed out and naturally worried as to not just the outcome of the situation but also whether or not we will be making the proper decisions. You have to realize that it is not in most cases just our own lives that are at stake here but those of our friends and generally our loved ones. This increases the tension even more as we progress through the survival scenario. To the family members themselves it is a very trying time and many will certainly be on the edge of a nervous breakdown. No one person can forever be a fortress and stand without feeling the weight of the situation pressing heavily upon their shoulders. Many grown men will soon discover that they too will cry as do anyone else during these damaging times. Reading has always been a relaxing activity that generally takes ones mind off the troubles that are being experienced in the world. It is this reason in particular that I decided to include works of fiction in my survival CDs. Granted they take up a lot of space but I have recently converted to a portable terabyte drive to house all my books and survival information so that is a much better system. On my CD’s one can find literary masterpieces that I hope in any bad situation my grandson would read to relax him. On that note it brings me to the second reason for including the fiction. In an absolute emergency schools would not be functioning as we are familiar with them and I am a firm believer in a solid education regardless of the situation. In this respect my grandson will still be able to keep up with some sort of studies. Home schooling could very well be the only education available in a really bad situation. So now I have explained why I include fiction in my CD compilations. As a final word, you may perhaps reason that if the end if the world as we know it is in the making at least I have saved a great many of the countries masterpieces and works of fiction for future generations.
