Americans Just Won't Prepare

People are interested in survival. I have personally seen traffic to this blog explode in the last few weeks as we prepare for the transition to the regime of the next President of the U.S. Anyone who has spent anytime reading this blog knows that I advocate planning ahead and preparing for the disasters that are vastly becoming all too common. Taking such simple steps as creating and supplying a disaster/survival kit, developing a family emergency and evacuation plan, and committing to learn as much as possible about the threats and dangers in your area, you will be able to survive the worst conditions imaginable.

Apparently this interest in survival does not translate into action. A recent study funded by Homeland Security and the National Science Foundation found that while 85% of participants in the study reported that they have become more vigilant since 9/11 the majority of those responders did nothing in the way of preparations to ensure their chances of survival.

According to this study only 36.4% have copied important documents, 31.3% have developed an emergency plan, 34.5% have stockpiled supplies, and only 21.9% have purchased items that would make them safer.

This study highlights an important trait of Americans. It appears that we refuse to acknowledge reality no matter how bad it gets. If you are in the same position as these people, I urge you to immediately rethink your level of readiness. Duplicate all important papers and keep them in separate locations. Take the time to develop a sensible family emergency and evacuation plan and start stockpiling supplies now. Time is running out.
