Emergencies and disasters can often be a scary topic of
discussion for younger children. When a child hears about
a natural disaster or sees something on the news, they
are often filled with troubling thoughts. It’s important
to always communicate and discuss emergency preparedness
with your children.
Talk to your children about what they should do if a
disaster were to strike. If you are discussing
earthquakes, you could talk about running and finding
cover under a table or chair.
Pick a meeting spot outside of your home, where your kids
know to meet if they get separated from the family.
Reassure them that your family is prepared for a disaster
and that everything will be okay.
Involve your children in helping you make your 72 hour
emergency kits. Let them choose on of there toys or
blankets to put in the kit, to add some comfort items to
their kit.
However you choose to involve your children, the bottom
line is the more they help prepare the more they will
