Is your business prepared for a disaster? By Joseph Parish As survivalists, we are usually proud of the fact that we have an elaborate 72 hour emergency kit handy in the event of a major disaster of any sort. However, stop to think for a moment whether your business can boast the same statement. A recent poll revealed that the majority of businesses may be dramatically short on emergency supplies and that the management of the business may possibly not fully understand just how their workplace could be utilized during an upcoming local emergency. Many people feel that with their 72 hour emergency kit they are really prepared to cope with any disaster that may come their way. These people are proud that they have taken the necessary steps to provide the needed supplies to keep their family safe during a crisis. When you ask these same people if they have any sort of emergency supplies stored at their place of employment most will reply negatively. Unfortunately, many individuals fail to consider that their workplace just might have to provide temporary shelter or potential emergency assistance to their employees and their families during these unpredictable times. Delmarva Survival Training would be glad to provide the needed guidance to setup a survival kit and the associated plan for your business. A workshop for your employees can be arranged by members of our organization to prepare them for emergencies when they occur. An example of some of the major problems that are discovered facing most businesses are simple and easy to remedy such as the lack of sufficient flashlights and batteries which are readily available in local stores. Why take chances? Let our professionals assess and analyze your business needs as they relate to emergencies. Joseph Parish, the owner and operator of Delmarva Survival Training states that most of the preparedness programs in existence today are in their infancy stage. To be prepared our businesses must undertake a new way of looking at both emergencies and their role in them. It is time for the American business owner to take responsibility for their people. Plans should call on the businesses to develop procedures which would easily permit emergency personnel with supplies to arrive at a disaster site and working with the local businesses to coordinate various assets and services with the private sector during any local emergency conditions. These sort of emergency preparedness programs are ongoing and are simply never completed for requirements change as do personnel. The programs will need to be continually updated and revised but should be in place.
