Ideas for Vehicle Considerations Many have differing ideas, some on finances, some on practical experiences. Where as new is nice and warranted, warranty does not come into practice when off the grid and out of the light so to speak. Older can be best, but only if reliable condition, or beefed some too. Best ideal models can be of common access for parts from donor vehicles such as GM models that run the 350cid V8 which was in all models of trucks, SUV's, vans in the 73-86 models running carburetion. If one can find good sources of Fords or Dodges, the same too. Older Jeeps have been good, but often need engine upgrades or replacements as well as axle replacements. As for carburetion versus fuel injection, think ease of access to repair when not with electrical tools too tune or diagnose, versus a pair of pliers and a screw driver. Tires, higher the ply the better. 2wd versus 4wd, is not so much an issue versus ground clearance though. A good 2wd pickup or SUV can be better of fuel economy as not the weight of the front axle, but one might want to beef the rear axles with a heavy-duty locking differential. Desert pre-runner 2wd's do this and do well. Skid plates, even if customized are also a thing to think of if going off the road to slip from sight. If going really off road into hills or mud, then the 4wd's are an absolute must though. Above all,
remember too that older vehicles tend to be cheaper on
parts to find, insurance and also taxes yearly. Properly
tuned and driven, they can even get decent fuel mileage
too. Original at: Unknown |
