Survivalist Pepper Spray plan By Joseph Parish Have you considered stocking some pepper spray in your emergency survival supply bags? Pepper spray has been used for decades now in the field of self defense primarily in the area of riot and crowd control, as well as for a defense against bears and vicious dogs. Its major ingredient is capsaicin which is the same content that provides the heat found in chili peppers. Pepper spray has been referred to by many names including OC spray which means Oleoresin Capsicum, capsicum spray or simply OC gas. The principle behind the use of this spray is that it acts as an irritant for the eyes and the bodies respiratory system. Although pepper spray has traditionally been considered non-lethal it has cased concern in some cases where the ultimate death of the attacker may have been contributed to the spray itself. Chances are good that you may never need to use this product to protect yourself but with conditions as they are these days one never can be too sure. Frequently you purchase pepper spray in small canisters which can be carried or concealed as necessary. A few companies have created ingenious methods of canceling their pepper spray in such common items as rings. For the survivalist looking to protect their homestead you might wish to consider some of the pepper spray projectiles which can be ejected from a familiar paintball gun. These items have been used for years in the effective control of demonstrators. When using these sprays you should keep several important points clearly in mind. Paying attention at this reminder could perhaps save your life. First point to remember is that when employing the pepper spray as a self defense item; never stick your shooting hand towards your assailant. It takes but an instant for a quick moving criminal to grab your hand causing you to lose your advantage. Try to yell at the person to stop for nature being as it is, they will likely do so for a split second. Make your attack with the spray as you are withdrawing your hand. Keep your eyes completely open as you spray the attacker and remember if you close them you risk your aim going into a different direction. Sprays in short bursts and keep your arm in continual motion. The attacker will in turn be moving in a variety of directions in order to avoid your spray. Try to follow his direction when spraying. Do not rely upon the pepper spray to stop the attack completely. It will only delay them and provide you some added time to run quickly to safety so immediately get as far away as you possibly can. It’s important to know when to spray it as well as where the spray should land. Always maintain your pepper spray in a location where you can access it rather quickly. Once you have access to your can of spray aim it at your attackers face and in particularly towards their eyes. Continue to spray for several seconds and during that time try to get away from the location. Keep your eyes focused on the attacker as it usually will take a few seconds for the spray to take effect. Pepper spray will accomplish the following actions towards assisting you: 1. Since the spray is a lachrymatory and inflammatory agent, it tends to causes immediate closing of the attackers eyes, it creates a difficult breathing situation, provides a potential runny nose, and usually uncontrolled coughing. It can last for up to forty-five minutes according to the amount of spray used. 2. It will create an inflammation within the respiratory system and irritation of the throat lining of your assailant. 3. In some cases it can irritate the attacker’s skin 4. Your attacker may also begin coughing non-stop We need all the tools we can accumulate as survivalists when emergency conditions occur and it would be to all preppers benefit to check out the inclusion of pepper spray in their supply lists.
