Survival Kits
One of the most watched television shows today is CBS's
Survivor. This show is anything but reality, as it
focuses more on the game of adventure than the real
aspect of survival situations. Of course, in the real
world, survival is not a fun escapade. There are no
exciting challenges and there is no such thing as
immunity.
To survive, it is
often necessary to have the will to fight whatever
obstacle gets your way. However, survival is more than
just looking in your inner self. In most cases, it
involves physical strength and knowledge of your
environment. Most importantly, to survive, the castaway
must have the necessities that will aid him into
recovery. There are many types of survival kits available
today. When encountered in a situation where one is face
to face with life and death, he/she must be able to learn
and classify the different types of survival kits:
short-term comfort, rescue and personal recovery, and
reusable kits. The purpose of these categories is to aid
survivors and help them stay alive.
Every survival kit provides short-term comfort, lasting
only for days and weeks to follow, the typical amount of
time expected for castaways to tolerate with until they
get rescued. Because it is expected for every castaway to
adapt to their environment and learn to care for
themselves, short-term edibles and necessities such as
water, emergency food and blankets are present under the
short-term survival kit. Every survivor must realize that
these necessities must be used in consideration. Food
supplies are limited, and blankets will soon wear and
tear as the weather changes. In a short while, the
necessities will be gone and it is up to the survivor to
find his/her means to keep living.
When caught in a survival situation, one must take action
and educate themselves on rescue and personal recovery
tools, such as anti-seasickness, first-aid kits with
waterproof cases, and survival manuals. These tools
provide care and guidance for those who are ill and hurt.
Since there are no doctors and heath services around, it
is important to understand and have the basic
necessities, helping the castaways regained enough
strength to learn the certain techniques needed to
survive and adapt to their new environment.
In addition, rescue and personal recovery tools also
include tools such as parachute flares, signaling mirror,
and buoyant orange smoke signals. These tools act as
rescue signals, providing assistance to the survivors who
are in distress. If used properly and safely, these tools
have the potential to save lives and provide hope and
comfort to those who are in distress.
The most important part of the survival kit is the
long-term tools. This reusable kit provides long-standing
comfort in case the journey becomes too long and
excruciating. If the rescue and signaling tools failed to
work, it is more convenient to learn and be aware of the
long-term tools, as it helps prolong your strength and
provide you with necessities once the short-term kit has
been used up. The long-term kit usually includes fishing
kits with hooks, line and sinkers, rain catchers, solar
stills and hunting knives. Overall, this kit is enough to
provide security and comfort for a long period of time,
in any kind of situations, such as being stuck in an
island, the wilderness, or even a lifeboat.
These characterizations of the short-term, health and
personal recovery, and reusable kits can help any
survivor in any situation. However, it is also important
to have faith, helping you cope with your situation and
providing you enough comfort to keep you strong. It
involves instinct and inner strength to be able to learn
and educate yourself on what to do and where to turn
during times of distress.
Indeed, any castaway would be quite content having access
to the different kinds of survival kits, as it displays
one prominent goal: to keep you alive.
