Bug out Camp By Joseph Parish Everyday I pick up the daily newspaper and read about another small business closing their doors or even worse I see major corporations requesting additional government funds in order to continue their operations. These types of newspaper headlines tend to scare the dickens out of me. Obama’s budget breaking stimulus plan does not appear to be having much of an effect upon this situation in the least. Our potential depression leaves many people with the real possibility of no home for their family to live in as well as minimum emergency plans to rely upon. The chances of people losing their means of livelihood are now greater then ever before in our nation’s history. Savings accounts are being rapidly being deleted at an all time rate merely to survive from week to week. Most people have but one question in regards to this problem. What can I do? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not a financial wizard by any stretch of the imagination, however, it does not take a rocket scientist to realize that advanced planning must be accomplished and that this planning must be initiated immediately. There is simply no time to waste. These economic problems are not about to go away anytime in the near future so all we can do is plan accordingly. As a result of the increased frequency of home foreclosures we are likely to see the all dreaded concentration camps returning. Not because our government wants to keep track of us or that they consider us to be a danger to society but more so because people just have no place to live. Some states such as California even have tents setup for the homeless which happens to number about 1200 or more people. This problem can not be taken lightly by any of us. I personally prefer that if I am going to go camping that it be based upon my terms and not the other way around. If it is necessary to leave the comfort of my home and live in the wild I want the circumstances to be under my control. It is totally possible to move off grid in a very economically manner while experiencing a bare minimum of discomfort. I have recently been toying with the idea of purchasing a camp ground space. Here we are looking at a one time purchase and the property then becomes mine. I would of course be required to pay a yearly fee for maintaining the associated roads and buildings plus a water bill of $125 dollars per year. Not bad actually. For a total of about $700 dollars per year I can live without the worry of tent cities or concentration camps. Although the particular area where I am considering permits tents to be setup I have no intention of this. Instead I will be placing a pull behind camper on the property and slowly if time permits convert it to solar, etc. Proper provisions will need to be made for heating in the shelter during winter months as well as other cost effective changes. Such an arrangement would not be totally to my disliking since I enjoy being close to nature and camping has always been one of my great passions. All good things come with negative aspects as well and this is one of them. Although I would in an emergency be able to fish for food, I do in fact, have certain “Park Rules” that I would need to follow. This is minor when considering the alternative. I would certainly recommend that everyone seriously give this idea a second thought as our economy is not getting any better. Copyright @ 2009 Joseph Parish
