Microbes Found in Delaware Water LEWES, Del. (AP)- Samples of water taken last month from Delaware's coastal areas detected microbes linked in southern coastal areas to fish kills, shellfish toxicity and human lung irritation. The Karenia microbes apparently caused no problems in Delaware and there is no evidence they are still in area. Physical symptoms from exposure to the microorganisms usually occur within hours of ingesting them and include stomach trouble, dizziness, aches and tingling sensations. Some people also suffer bronchial problems when the toxins become airborne during blooms called "red tides." The discovery of the microbes was included in a monitoring report issued by the University of Delaware's Citizen Monitoring Program.
