August 23, 2008 - You can keep snakes away from your tent by placing some moth
balls in or near it. DP
August 18, 2008 - To avoid any delay in self-rescue simply pick an object in the
distance and walk to it. As you approach this object choose another directly in
line with the first. By following this simple yet effect formula you can't help
but travel in a straight line. GC
August 16, 2008 - Fishing hooks can be fashioned from almost any item made out
of steel wire. Barbed wire fence, Springs, Etc. A single spiral of any small,
steel spring can be fashioned into a hook. They are strong enough to do the job
well. One spring can yield a dozen or more hooks. Spiral note books, toys, your
car, broken electronics units. The sources are almost endless. Sharpen the tip
on a file, stone, rock, then carefully bend it into shape.EP
August 9, 2008 - During floods or hurricanes you must do something when rain or
flood waters get into your building. Its important to take steps to prevent any
sort of mold growth from starting. CD
August 5, 2008 - Check your child’s school Web site or call the school office to
request a copy of the school’s emergency plan. Keep a copy at home and work or
other places where you spend a lot of your time and make sure the school’s plan
is incorporated into your family’s emergency plan. Also, learn about the
disaster plans at your workplace or other places where you and your family spend
time. SG
August 5, 2008 - Go through your calendar now, and put a reminder on it for
every six months to review your plan, update numbers, and check supplies to be
sure nothing has expired, spoiled, or changed. Remember to practice your
tornado, fire escape or other disaster plans. SG
August 4, 2008 - Pick a place to meet after a disaster. Designate two meeting
places. Choose one near your home and the second place you choose needs to be
outside your neighborhood. In the event that it is not safe to stay near or
return to your home all family members should meet at the second location. SG.
August 4, 2008 - Take a moment to imagine that there is an emergency and you
need to leave quickly. What are the best escape routes from your home? Find at
least two ways out of your town or city. Now, write it down — you’ve got the
beginning of a plan. SG
