March 31, 2009 - "Survival Gardening Parts 1 - 14" In this series of videos we discuss and will show methods of gardening "when it counts." The first 3 short videos detail some of the pitfalls and perils to the common survival/preparedness thinking of "when my storage food runs out I'll just grow a garden." Intermixed throughout the first three videos are also invaluable tips on gardening and food production for the homestead, survival retreat or backyard in suburbia. Click here
March 31, 2009 - "Oh Yes I forgot to tell you about…." By Joseph Parish. Well, as all good survivalists you have your initial bug out exercise planned and you feel pretty confident that you have everything under control. You have referred over and over to your well composed bug out checklists and you are 100 percent confident that nothing has been overlooked. You have completely rechecked your bug out bags, your food provisions and your first aid supplies. Click here
March 31, 2009 - "Obama gets list of top Muslim Americans" In a bid to get more Muslim Americans working in the Obama administration, a book with resumes of 45 of the nation's most qualified — Ivy League grads, Fortune 500 executives and public servants, all carefully vetted — has been submitted to the White House. Hummm, the news article says "under the Radar" but I say "behind our back". Perhaps this is where the enemy combatants will get their jobs from. Click here
March 30, 2009 - "Preparation is the key to Bugging out in Comfort" By Joseph Parish. Anyone who happens to know me personally can attest that when it comes to bugging out I want a certain amount of luxury. I need those 12 volt appliances readily accessible when I journey to the wilds. I would be hard pressed to accept anything less then my 12 volt coffee pot, oven, toaster and the other miracles of battery living that our society has so graciously fashioned for me. Click here
March 30, 2009 - "How To Build a Snow Coffin" Here is a training video on how to build a snow coffin. This item could perhaps save your life in an emergency. Out thanks to the Toronto Survivalist group. Click here
March 29, 2009 - I apologize for not having any original material on the site today but I will be away for the day and wanted to get it updated prior to my departure. Thank you for your consideration. Joe
March 29, 2009 - "Emergency Food Storage Good
For A Year by Greg Shuey. Having a long-term plan for emergency food storage can
and will save your life. An emergency food storage will sustain you and your
family in times of disaster when food stores and groceries don't have food
stocked in their shelves. It will also help you in times of financial
difficulties. When your budget is short and cant afford to buy food, you can get
food from your emergency storage.

March 29, 2009 - "Terrorists to receive Welfare Checks?" The latest outrage created by Obama concerns the Gitmo terrorists. Sworn Jihadists who were waging war against America and captured in the act may be released on American soil and receive Welfare. These are people that are responsible for the deaths of American Soldiers. The penalty for siding against the strongest military in the world? Free Money! Unbelievable. Click here
March 29, 2009 - Every life needs to have a bit of humor - when we lose our ability to laugh we may as well turn over and die. Jimmy Kimmel did this commercial about AIG. Enjoy it for what it was meant for.

March 28, 2009 - "FEMA Concentration Camps: Locations and Executive Orders" There are over 800 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States and all it would take is a presidential signature on a proclamation and the attorney general's signature on a warrant to which a list of names is attached. Click here
March 28, 2009 - "Bugging in Place" By Joseph Parish. Just about every place that one may consider as a safe retreat location has some sort of negative aspect about it. As an example, assume we take the Idaho, Wyoming and Montana area. There are groups of people that are currently observing the Yellowstone area for a impending crisis. Suppose for one moment that the Yellowstone geysers start to go off as it has been predicted. We are quickly becoming conscious that this hot springs locality is nothing more then a super volcano waiting to erupt. In this case a safe retreat to those surrounding states would be a waste. March 27, 2009 - "On the value of home medical training" By Joseph Parish. Learning various hospital procedures and medical fundamentals can be a great asset when TSHTF. Not only will you be a more useful benefit to your survival group but you and your group will certainly feel a bit safer knowing that one of you have the knowledge to help the others. Click here
March 27, 2009 - Thanks to Dave we have now added a link to the Havaria Emergency and Disaster Information Services. This map will show all the various emergency events that are occurring in the world. i find it very interesting. It will be a permanent part of this page. You can find it on the left hand column.
March 26, 2009 - "Pilot: How to Survive Emergency Aircraft Landings" "Brace! Brace!" In some in-flight emergencies, that is all the pilot has time to say. And now, the good news - in two parts. Click here
March 26, 2009 - "Delmarva Survival Training needs Volunteers" By Joseph Parish. As a resident of the Delmarva Peninsula I completely appreciate that many disasters and emergencies could await me. These situations could very well be in a form of influenza virus which might someway strike our area or it could possibly be a terrorist attack. Perchance there is a catastrophe associated with one of the chemical plants in the northern part of our state. The point is that we can be very vulnerable to emergency situations and as such we should learn to prepare ourselves for such events. Click here
March 26, 2009 - "LifeStat Emergency Pocket Airway" My doctor told me about this tracheotomy tube when I was putting together an expanded medical/first aid kit for a cabin in the middle of nowhere in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In the winter up there, 3 - 4 feet of snow is common and it's a mile+ out to the road, so we need to be prepared if something goes wrong. Yes, it would take a little guts to use this (there are clear instructions that come with it), but if someone was turning blue there's not a doubt in the world I could jam it home. Click here
March 26, 2009 - "Recipe: All-Vegg Powder" As a mom of a picky eater, I have to be creative to get a variety of vegetables into my VHTS (Very Hungry Tween Son). He LOVES fresh fruit, and some veggies (raw spinach, raw broccoli, raw cauliflower and raw carrots), but it doesn't go much beyond that. I've tried dehydrating bits of broc and cauli but he doesn't like them that way. He'll eat dried corn and peas, but those are the only veggies. Click here

An economic crisis, two wars going on, Americans being killed in battle, North Korea and Iran detaining American citizens, and what does Obama do? Flies around the country and appears on a comedy show. Grow up Obama and do the job your were elected to do!
March 25, 2009 - "U.S. Seeks Expanded Power to Seize Firms" Well here we go folks. Sinking further and further into the arms of socialism thanks to Mr. Obama and his Socialistic ideals. The Obama administration is considering asking Congress to give the Treasury secretary unprecedented powers to initiate the seizure of non-bank financial companies, such as large insurers, investment firms and hedge funds, whose collapse would damage the broader economy, according to an administration document. As responsible citizens we have got to let our representatives know how we feel on these issues. click here
March 25, 2009 - I would just like to remind all our visitors that I now am working with three blog's which cater towards our area of the country. The first one of course the Survival Training Blog and the others are the Delaware Preppers Network and then my own at Delmarva Preppers Network.
March 25, 2009 - "Backpack costs" By Joseph Parish. When I visit the various department stores and examine the immense collection of backpacks I am stunned at the huge cost that is associated with them. No longer can you pick up a quality pack for a reasonable price. Click here
March 24, 2009 - CD0029 is now online in the members area. Click here
March 24, 2009 - "My personal Library" By Joseph Parish. I have always been a great fan of books and continually support the act of reading. Although most of the books which I read are generally non-fiction I do in fact partake of fiction on occasion. In my actual physical library I have a complete collection of Stephen King first editions. Each copy is in mint condition and in some cases I even have both the European and American printings. Click here
March 24, 2009 - "Drinkin' urine" Now here is one of the most disgusting articles that I have come across, however I guess in an actual situation we as survivalist must do what we have to do. Click here
March 24, 2009 - We can not afford to keep dangerous terrorists in our country. It is time for our voices to be heard in Washington. Let's band together and make a loud enough noise that action will need to be taken on our behalf. Please view the advertisement below on keeping Guantanamo open.
March 23, 2009 - I recently wrote an article entitled "On the value of MP3 Players in Bug Out vehicles". This was an article that was placed on the web site and stressed the use of the old time radio shows during bug out situations. As such I have uploaded a CD worth of these old radio shows. These are in MP3 format and in order to play in a normal CD would need to be converted. Click here

March 23, 2009 - "A self contained gardening system" Here's how I make a homemade "self-contained gardening system" in about 10 minutes, and for about $10 (instead of the $40.00-plus-shipping that the genuine article costs from various sellers). Click here
March 22, 2009 - "Toxic Ziploc Omelet procedure" By Joseph Parish. I recently came across several people suggesting a procedure that I have listed in this article as dangerous. This article was written by me in February of 2008. I thought in view of what is currently circulating around the net now it would be a good time to repost it. Click here
March 22, 2009 - "A case of preparedness and rough economic times" By Joseph Parish. I recently glanced at an commentary that essentially stated there were over 250 million people that are affected by disaster every year. These figures are unquestionably believable and I have no doubt in my mind that they are accurate. The same article proceeded to say that in order to preserve the safety and readiness of your family you should be amassing what is referred to as Ready food Kits. Click here
March 21, 2009 - Victory Gardens are popping up all over the country. Watch the video below.
March 21, 2009 - "Shipping Rates of Survival Supplies" By Joseph Parish. While aimlessly drifting from one survival store to the other on the internet recently I noticed that numerous people had been complaining about the venders cost of shipping survival related items. I too have experienced this dilemma predominantly with e-bay stores. It never stops astounding me how many people can turn out to be extremely ravenous during periods when they should feel most generous. Click here
March 21, 2009 - "Head Injury - Recognition, First Aid for Skull Fracture & Closed Head Injury By Rod Brouhard. Injuries to the head can cause damage to the skull, scalp, or brain. The brain rests inside the skull protected by a cushion of soft tissue called the meninges. Click here

March 20, 2009 - "Storing Your Buckets" After cleaning out both my storage units I realized that one critical item was missing from my house here in the valley. I have no closets! Not only do I not have any closets I have no storage space other than the kitchen cabinets. Right now the 30 plus buckets of food and miscellaneous storage totes are divided between the bathroom and sunroom. Here is what I am doing to permanently stow these items. Click here
March 20, 2009 - The get together that was scheduled for the 22nd of March has been cancelled. It seems that there simply was not enough interest to warrant having the event. Perhaps at a later time we will have more participation.
March 19, 2009 - Alex Jones presents the "Obama deception". Listen to how we are having the wool pulled over our eyes. This President thinks we are a nation of sheep.
March 19, 2009 - "The nuisance of biting bugs during a bug out" By Joseph Parish. Proper planning must be taken in order to ensure that you and your family are not devoured by biting bugs during a bug out. Most of the current insect repellents on the market today use DEET as the active ingredient. You will find it in just about the entire over the counter product line that you can purchase. Supposedly, the DEET in the repellants today can be safely used on children as young as two months old as well as on adults. Click here
March 19, 2009 - "Storing Seeds " This is an interesting article in view of the recent proposals to regulate us growing our own gardens. We just may need this information. Seeds are living things, and need to be properly stored to maintain their viability for as long as possible. You might have hundreds of seed packets, and room for approximately 15 to 20 different varieties in your garden. So, how to store the rest of the seeds that you will not be planting this upcoming season? Click here
March 18, 2009 - "Dangerous Drinks" By Joseph Parish. It has been suggested that specific soft drinks can provoke havoc with your health. As survivalists this can be extremely important for our preparedness plans. We of course are concerned about our families health and at the same time we are wondering about including soft drinks in our preparedness supplies. Click here
March 18, 2009 - "The value of a cell phone for survivalists" By Joseph Parish. Cell phones can be a functional tool when united with your survivalist efforts. In my family we all have our own cell phones. Several are not formally turned on meaning that there is no time on them or they are not connected to any sort of network, but these phones still perform as a 911 relay. Click here
March 17, 2009 - "The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President's Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment" The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases. Click here
March 17, 2009 - "HR 875 The food police, criminalizing organic farming and the backyard gardener and violation of the 10th amendment" HR 875 is being steamrolled thru the House and we have to pick up the pace! This bill is sitting in committee and I am not sure when it is going to hit the floor. One thing I do know is that very few of the Representatives have read it. As usual they will vote on this based on what someone else is saying. Urge your members to read the legislation and ask for opposition to this devastating legislation. Devastating for everyday folks but great for factory farming ops like Monsanto, ADM, Sodexo and Tyson to name a few. Click here
March 17, 2009 - "The Flood 2007 Movie" I have received several requests for another movie so I have posted another survival type movie here. I really can not imagine in the least being in the ladies shoes at the beginning of the movie. That my friend is one scary thought. But enough of my talking you will be able to judge for yourself. March 17, 2009 - "Severe Weather Preparedness Electronics Checklist" Severe weather emergencies, such as hurricanes and flooding, occur with little advance warning. Still other events, such as tornados, earthquakes and power blackouts may happen with no warning at all. Are you prepared? In addition to stocking up on reserve food and water, there are several electronic supplies that you should have readily available in your home and workplace so you can react and cope with the after effects. A RadioShack sales associate can walk you through the checklist. Click here
March 17, 2009 - Just a reminder that our get together for March 22 is coming up soon. So far we don't have but a couple of people signed up. Here is your chance to meet like minded people in a friendly atmosphere and under the best conditions. Don't past up this opportunity to make important contacts. Contact me at joseph.parish@survival-training.info to reserve a spot. If we don't get enough sign ups the event will be cancelled.
March 17, 2009 - "Time to check out your Supplies" By Joseph Parish. Well, we recently changed our clocks and at the same time we were advised to replace the batteries in our smoke detectors. Although this is sensible recommendations, I think that it should have been extended just a wee bit more and ought to have incorporated inspecting our preparedness supplies as well. Click here
March 17, 2009 - "FEMA: Friend, Foe, or
Tyrannical Tool! Part 1" It would seem natural that all governments would want to
protect their people in times of disaster, both natural and man-made (though
not all do). Contingencies may be set up for such events. The United States is
no exception. But as with all good intentions the pathway to oblivion is only
a short change of course.

March 16, 2009 - "The dilemma of the Pay
Phone" By Joseph Parish. Years ago I can remember that if you required the use
of a telephone you could readily discover a nearby payphone. If your mother or
father were like mine and they instructed you to phone home at a precise time
then by golly you had better be calling home or else. To comply you had merely
to pause at the local street corner of town long enough to make your needed
phone call and then you were happily back doing what ever you were previously.
You basically had no excuse for not doing so. You could drive down the local
main street of town and notice that payphones were easily available on just
about every street within the town.

March 16, 2009 - "Administration open to
taxing health benefits" Proposal problematic for Obama as he denounced similar
one in campaign. The Obama administration is signaling to Congress that the
president could support taxing some employee health benefits, as several
influential lawmakers and many economists favor, to help pay for overhauling the
health care system. The proposal is politically problematic for President Obama,
however, since it is similar to one he denounced in the presidential campaign as
“the largest middle-class tax increase in history.” Most Americans with
insurance get it from their employers, and taxing workers for the benefit is
opposed by union leaders and some businesses.

March 15, 2009 - "Testament 1983 Movie" We currently
are showing the 1983 movie Testament. In view of the recent developments
with Russia planning to place bombers in our hemisphere we owe it to ourselves
to view this movie. The film is a very disturbing drama about a family falling apart after a
nuclear attack in San Francisco. Jane Alexander was
nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her
performance. One of the first appearances for Kevin
Costner and Rebecca De Mornay. The video is broken down
into 12 sections. If you can not finish it on one visit you can catch another
Part on your next visit. Click here
March 15, 2009 - "The Value of Cats when
TSHTF" By Joseph Parish. Traditionally a good number of people often judge cats
as a municipal nuisance. This perception likely stems from the outward
determination towards their free will and their independent nature, however I
would like to communicate a brief article here in support of the felines during
extended periods of crisis.

March 14, 2009 - "Our Social Systems have
drastic problems" By Joseph Parish. Most working people will readily admit that
they despise the current welfare system. In all surveys that are conducted among
the working class it is felt that the welfare benefits should be immediately
stopped. Unfortunately most people feel that if someone can not work due to
their physical limitations or to an illness they should be provided social
security. Folks this is certainly not the right approach to resolve this
dilemma. I fully agree about placing a halt upon the welfare system but don't
transfer the worthless assets to the social security system.

Mills.

March 14, 2009 - "Waters Helped Bank Whose
Stock She Once Owned" California Democrat Has Championed Minority-Owned
OneUnited on Capitol Hill and Criticized Its Government Regulators. Ms. Waters
and her husband have both held financial stakes in the bank. Until recently, her
husband was a director. At the same time, Ms. Waters has publicly boosted
OneUnited's executives and criticized its government regulators during
congressional hearings. Last fall, she helped secure the bank a meeting with
Treasury officials. Sounds like a bit of conflict of interests here.

March 14, 2009 - "Obama's Poll Numbers Are
Falling to Earth". It is simply wrong
for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of
popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public
confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent
survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are
coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and
most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that
the Obama administration has advanced.

March 13, 2009 - "The Deer are in the Garden"
By Joseph Parish. How often have you glanced out your backdoor only to catch a
glimpse of a deer happily devouring your favorite tomato plants? It has happened
to me in the past and it may happen to you now. Picture some over-weight, middle
age man leaping out his backdoor to chase away some hungry deer and you have a
picture of me doing the shoo-deer chase!

12, 2009 - "How to Treat a Bullet Wound" Gunshot wounds are one of the most
serious forms of trauma that you can encounter. Gunshots cause three types of
trauma: penetration (destruction of flesh by the projective), cavitation (damage
from the bullet's shock wave in the body), and fragmentation (caused by pieces
of the projectile or bone).[1] If is very difficult to predict the degree of
damage done by a gunshot wound, and many of the injuries caused by a gun far
exceed what you can reasonably treat. For this reason, the best option for most
gunshot wounds is to get the victim to a hospital as soon as possible. Read on
to learn what you can do to help stabilize a gunshot victim.

March 11, 2009 - "Should we be mad?" By
Joseph Parish. Well it seems like the old saying that persistence pays off is
true. Congress has approved and sent its outrageous spending bill up to Obama

against the bill it still passed without any sort of problems what-so-ever.

March 11, 2009 - "Bug
out Camp" By Joseph Parish. Everyday I pick up the daily newspaper and read
about another small business closing their doors or even worse I see major
corporations requesting additional government funds in order to continue their
operations. These types of newspaper headlines tend to scare the dickens out of
me. Obama’s budget breaking stimulus plan does not appear to be having much of
an effect upon this situation in the least.

March 10, 2009 - "Audio: Obama Calls NY Times

so concerned that he had appeared to dismiss a question
from New York Times reporters about whether he was a
socialist that he called the newspaper from the Oval
Office to clarify his policies. "It was hard for me to

socialist question," he told reporters, who had
interviewed the president aboard Air Force One on Friday.

will spend in the grave.

increased drastically. The going joke in the home was that the food being stored

9, 2009 - "On the value of MP3 Players in Bug Out vehicles" By Joseph Parish.
When we reach the point of no return and have to make that ultimate decision as
to stay or go we want to do so with as little discomfort as possible. I know
this sounds a little petty however lets consider for one moment the amount of
time that we could perhaps be in hiding. One month? Perhaps several months?
Maybe even as much as 6 to 12 months. In a case like that I could just about
guarantee that radio stations will no longer be broadcasting. Television will
certainly be non-existent at this time. Even if the infrastructure was still
present most operators and maintenance people would be with their families and
not at work.

March 6, 2009 - "Can One Nuclear Weapon
Cripple America?" Between Russia, China, and the Islamic Extremists America has
her fair share of potential problems. An ever growing threat, that has the
potential to totally cripple the U.S., comes from the after effects of a nuclear
detonation called EMP.

March 6, 2009 - "Fresh Home Curing Olives" By
Joseph Parish. Being from a Greek family and my wife’s step father being Italian
we both enjoy some good olives when we can find them. Usually we like those that
are still in the brine and not so much the ones that you purchase in the jars.
However in a pinch either will do just nicely.

March 6, 2009 - "We
certainly make it easy for the refugees" By Joseph Parish. Everyday I receive
updated notices from the United States State Department and generally I merely
delete them however this one listed below has managed to catch my attention and
hold it for a while. Here we have a group of people who hate us and would like
nothing better to do then to eliminate our way of life. Our homeland security
does not seem to have any concern what so ever at allowing these Iraqi refugees
into our country. It is no wonder that we have the terrorist attacks that we do
as we seem to invite them to come to America.

March 5, 2009 - "Staying With Capsized Boat
Aided Survival" By Ray Reyes. Nick Schuyler's nightmare began Saturday afternoon
when the boat he was on capsized in the Gulf. For two days, he endured 14-foot
seas, 30 mph wind gusts, water temperatures in the 60s and air temperatures that
dropped into the lows 40s. How did he survive?

March 5, 2009 - "Can you still find frogs to
eat?" By Joseph Parish. I recently read that the high demand for frog legs for
human consumption has been making these creatures a bit on the scarce side. It
appears that there is a vast decline in frog population in the wild due to over
exploitation of them for foods both in America and Europe. It will not be long
before the number of catches that you can have will be limited. In fact I fully
expect that you will be required to have a Frog license just the same as a
fishing license is currently required.

March 4, 2009 - "Oh
Fiddleheads" by Joseph
Parish. Few people may know what a fiddlehead is however if you do
not you should make it a point to find out because you are missing a very
delightful treat. Fiddleheads are young fern leaves which grow in a coil. They
are approximately one inch in diameter. They originate from the ostrich fern.
Keep in mind that all ferns develop fiddleheads however the best and safest are
those from the ostrich fern. Click

Parish. We haven’t departed company with ole man winter as of yet. Spring and

emergency heat during a crisis situation.

March 2, 2009 - "Obama’s wasted tax
Dollars at work" By Joseph Parish. It even seems like the National Basketball
Association wants their share of the Obama hand out money. I read with
unrestrained interest the recent news article concerning the borrowing of 175
million dollars by the NBA to serve towards teams which might be in financial
difficulties at this time. They blame the weak global economy for the issue
however let’s review how much these players actually take home.

March 1, 2009 - "FEMA
and CERT Classes" By Joseph Parish. I have taken both FEMA classes and CERT
courses and feel that both were very useful in preparation for eventual
emergencies of any sort. One of Delmarva Survival Trainings main goals is to
prepare our people to handle emergencies on their own and not be left at the
mercy of our government to help them. As such we are gearing up for the spring
time and would certainly like to have some actual hands on classroom style FEMA
or CERT training. Click here
March 1, 2009 - "Should we be very
scared?" By Joseph Parish. Yellowstone National Park is the home to one of the
world’s largest and most active volcanic systems. During he last several million
years this area has produced some giant volcanic eruptions. As of this date we
have not experienced any eruptions which contain volcanic ash or lava however
future eruptions may likely contain both of these dangerous contents. We may be
lucky and all we will see are some ongoing hot spring activities, an occasional
steam explosion and perhaps even a few moderate to large size earthquakes.
