January 31, 2009 - "Emergency and Disaster
Warnings" Besides the things you may observe or experience personally, there are
several ways you may be alerted to a disaster or an emergency situation before
it occurs. Being aware of what is happening or about to happen can mean the
difference in surviving a disaster or becoming a victim of one.

January 27, 2009 - "The Survival Pantry" I
came across this post over at the Simple Dollar today and it got me thinking
about one of the most important parts of the survivalist's home, the pantry.
Many people think about food preps as a separate entity from day to day living.
In your food stores you may have bags of rice, bags of wheat, and a vat of
cooking oil, but it is the items contained in your pantry that will pull the
stored items together to make a meal. Having a full pantry also means that you
never have to run to the store at the last minute or order out because "there is
nothing to eat". Here's the items that I keep in my pantry and which I also keep
back ups of in my survival food supplies.

25, 2009- "Fiction for survivalists" By Joseph Parish. As some of my closest
friends know I save all my survival information onto CD’s so that I can use them
with a laptop as I am making my way to my survival retreat. Often times when I
create a survival CD with my survival information placed on it I will frequently
include books which are of a fictional nature and not at all associated with the
topic of survival or even survivalists. Over a period of time several people
have approached me and inquired as to why I create the CD with fiction on it and
I thought that it was time that I explained my reasoning to my readers.

24, 2009 - "A delightful Lemon Tainted Bread" By Joseph Parish. As most people
who are familiar with me know I enjoy making and experimenting with various
types of homemade bread ranging from flatbreads fried in a skillet to those
complete loaves made in a bread machine. In view of my last article on
preserving lemons I thought I would also add my recipe for bread that includes a
touch of lemon. Click

decision to pledge billions of additional dollars with strings attached to
Citigroup Inc. and Bank of America Corp. may be nationalization by another name,
according to former bankers and regulators.

January 23, 2009 - "Too much BOB junk" By
Joseph Parish. Ahhh, here we have the sweet life of a survivalist. Every now and
then I decide to get away from it all and jump in the bug out van and merely
travel a short distance from civilization. It tends to opens up ones sense of
survival and produces some clear thinking. I made this exact decision just the
other day. I packed up the laptop computer so that I could still do a bit of
writing and headed for parts of Delaware that are relatively unknown. I took my
cell phone in the event of an emergency and off I went.

22, 2009 - "Just Any
Thermometer Won’t Do" By Joseph Parish. A visit to your local kitchen gadget
store will quickly make you realize that there is more then one type of
thermometer that you can purchase for your kitchen tasks. It doesn’t matter
whether the thermometer that you are buying will be used in your refrigerator or
in your oven as you bake that next turkey dinner, they all have their
similarities as well as their differences. Thermometers are basically a tool
that you use in food preparation to ensure that you prepare a safe and well
cooked meal. Click here

January 21, 2009 - "Citrus all year round" By
Joseph Parish. I like to garbage garden as I call it. I will take sees that one
would normally toss into the trash and plant them. The majority of the time I

usually do very well with is lemons and oranges. Most citrus fruits are similar

bound to happen with Obama. The incoming Obama administration is considering
setting up a government-run bank to acquire bad assets clogging the financial
system, a person familiar with the Obama team's thinking said on Saturday. The
U.S. Federal Reserve, Treasury and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp have been in
talks about ways to ease a banking crisis that is once again deepening -- and a
government-run "aggregator bank" is among the options.

January 19, 2009 - "I Think I Ripped my
Pants" By Joseph Parish. The title may sound like a tale from the popular kid’s
show SpongeBob SquarePants however it has a certain ring of truth to it when it
comes to survival. Surviving in the wild can be rough not only on the individual
but also upon the persons clothing. Burrs on the woodland bushes are certain to
snag the pants as are the overhanging branches getting caught on ones shirt. Add
to that the amount of dirt that could be collected from a romp in the woods and
the poor washing conditions and your clothing is certainly not going to last
that long. Click here

continually lurking how can a survivalist beat the odds and keep his family safe
and secure?

January 18, 2009 - "Build a groundhog snare"
The groundhog, otherwise known as the woodchuck,
can waste a lot of your hard-earned garden bounty
in a matter of hours. They’ll nibble a little bit
on one melon and then move to the next one for a
few bites. Then they’ll hit the squash, and
whatever else tempts their taste buds, taking a
few sample bites from each veggie. Every day each
groundhog will consume about 3 pounds of fruits,
vegetables, grasses, and clover. You can’t fence
them out because they are excellent diggers and
will just tunnel under the fence.

increased utility bills that are being tossed at us each month. Knowing that
these bills will not go down in the foreseeable future, I have initiated some
alternative actions that are meant to combat the high cost of electricity. In
these few paragraphs I hope to give you an insight into saving money by using

January 17, 2009 - "Grandma’s Canned Sausage"
By Joseph Parish. During the canning season I can often recall that my
grandmother used to take and can sausage patties. She would take fresh made
patties and stack them neatly inside a wide mouth jar and then fill the
container full of hot sausage grease. She would then place the lids securely on
them, turn them upside down to seal and she was done. How I remember going to
the food closet and seeing dozens upon dozens of jars carefully stacked upside
down. It seems that in those days it was customary to place the jars upside down
to ensure a good seal. Click

silver to proper use of stored food supplies.

17, 2009 - Well now here is something that all tax payers should be getting
angry about. You may have to read the news story several times to actually get
the idea of what is going on. Keep in mind that Citicorp was baled out last year
at our expense to the tune of $45 Billion dollars. They recently posted a yearly
loss of 8.29 Billion and now we will end up giving them some unknown Billions
more. Since it is being split up into two parts the rich investors will get all
their investments back but they should have had a lose the same as the average

the year. That is why being prepared is so important.
